Dressage at Lexington has been on the must-attend list for quite some time…but every year, something goes sideways! Not in 2024, though! We ventured to Dressage at Lexington – a very nice dressage show only three hours from home at the wonderful Virginia Horse Center along with good friends, and it was a great experience!
Jimmy (HJA Sundust) and Zipper (Battersea Zipper) made the trip, and competed both in-hand on the sport horse triangle, and under saddle, and were absolute stars! Jimmy was at his first show back with some atmosphere, and was his usual self, full of personality. This was his last show at Training Level, before he made his fall move-up to First Level. He and Jen had a good test on Friday, after his run in the Morgan IBC that morning, handled by his BFF Talia.
Zipper was an absolute star at her first “big” show, running the triangle and winning the Morgan IBC (sorry, Jimmy, you were a close second!), and earning a 3rd with Jen in the adult amateur handler on the triangle. Zipper is still working on her canter in the dressage ring – show her a jump and she’s all about cantering, but a 20m circle is still a bit of a mystery! That said, this special mare had lovely tests at DAL at Intro, all of which she had good scores in the low 60s, earning blue ribbons! She was completely unbothered by the atmosphere, and for that alone she was a complete winner.
We greatly enjoyed our show with our friends (including a great highlight of cheering on our bestie Talia, of Quarter Moon Farm, for her fantastic Reserve Champion in the Sport Horse Adult Amateur Challenge – WAY TO GO!), and are so grateful for the fantastic coaching and assistance from Milestone Sport Horses. Can’t wait to come back next year!
Many thanks to Jess Liptak Howard for the lovely photos!
