We made the trek up to Northampton, MA for our second year competing at New England Morgan. We really enjoy this show! The atmosphere is electric, it’s so much fun to see so many lovely Morgans – and I do hail from New England, after all. 😉 But most of all, they are excellent supporters of Morgan sport horses, and we do really appreciate all of our breed shows that do so, year after year.
Jimmy made the trek along with his friend “Ike,” who is another lovely Morgan sport horse who lives in our area (and who had quite a successful week!). The 80th anniversary of one of the greatest Morgan shows was as exciting as we expected it would be, and we enjoyed ourselves from the start! Jimmy is really coming into his own as a working hunter. Our friend Abby Moller rode Jimmy in his classes over fences – I had of *course* managed to mangle my hand days before the show, and she gave him two lovely trips! Abby also owns Jimmy’s pal Ike, so she was especially kind to ride Jimmy as well! All of this resulted in Jimmy winning the championship in Suitable Hunter!
We had a good Hunter Hack division, and it is always especially magical to show in the main ring at New England, so we greatly enjoyed Sport Horse Under Saddle. It was also a very special evening when working hunters were presented their championships in the main ring – a moment I will never forget.
We finished on dressage, and Jimmy put in two workmanlike tests as per usual. He is the consummate professional, versatile Morgan, and he always makes us proud at every show! Of course we can’t wait until 2020 for our next trip to Northampton – Clara will perhaps be old enough and ready to join us!
